Dr Rebecca Wood is a former teacher and autism education practitioner who has recently completed her PhD on the inclusion of autistic children in the curriculum and tests in mainstream primary schools. She is currently an honorary Research Fellow at the University of Birmingham, and was the project manager on the Transform Autism Education.
The Centre for Research in Autism and Education (CRAE) is a partnership between the UCL Institute of Education (IOE), University College London, the leading centre for education and social research in the UK, and Ambitious about Autism, the national charity for children and young people with autism.

Research Opportunities PhD and MPhil Studentships. The ARC welcomes applications from prospective PhD and MPhil students who wish to pursue a research degree in the field of autism spectrum conditions. We are interested to hear from people whose interests centre on biomedical aspects, or who wish to extend any of the projects already underway.
Many of our courses are also useful for Learning Support Assistants and Child Autism UK provides a range of training courses and services for schools including whole class training. Training can also be delivered as bespoke courses. All courses are led by our highly experienced Case Managers. They include practical case studies and examples.
The course starts by discussing what autism is, as well as the role of special educational needs and disabilities within schools. Inclusion can be a difficult concept to define, and different models of inclusive education are discussed, including mainstream schools, special schools, and autism units attached to mainstream schools.
On our part-time masters degree, you’ll explore different perspectives on autism. You’ll evaluate theories, ideas and approaches so that you are able adopt a critical stance in relation to research and current practice. A core part of our MA Autism Spectrum Conditions is self-reflection.
