The Australian National Maritime Museum acknowledges the Gadigal people of the Eora nation as the Traditional Custodians of the bamal (earth) and badu (waters) on which we work. The story of the voyage and the Lu family as been explored in a number of museum exhibitions including Tears, Fears and Cheers an exhibition on migration to Australia, Smugglers: Contraband and Customs 1901 -2001 exhibition on the centenary of the Australian Customs Service, and Voyage from Vietnam in the core Passengers gallery.
Immigration Stories. Throughout history stories have been used to illuminate, to educate, to recount, to challenge and to engage. Every individual’s life experience is unique and dynamic, particularly for those of us who have journeyed far from our homes to establish new lives in foreign countries.

The passengers database was produced by volunteers at the South Australian Maritime Museum, especially Rob Lincoln, over 20 years. The database lists 328,000 passengers who came to South Australia between 1836 and 1964 along with 600 pages listing passenger diaries, letters and ship logs and where to find them.

The first iteration of Customs House was a white tent pitched on the banks of the Yarra, soon to be replaced with a structure described as a 'shabby, leaky, comfortless, weatherboard cabin' which shipped in pieces from Sydney and erected here during the 1830s.
